The identity trap no one talks about

Hey Beauty Boss,
Being a business owner is a dream for many, but what happens when your dream becomes your identity? You wear the title 'Entrepreneur' or 'Business Owner,' but instead of that being what you do, it becomes who you are.
The same is true for moms. When you have a child, your entire identity before motherhood can be erased if you aren’t careful. You can lose yourself as a person because you become so engulfed in your new responsibility. There is usually a good intention behind it - you want to be the perfect mom (or business owner), but is it at the cost of losing yourself?
Many will say yes. It’s worth everything to lose yourself to become the best mom to your children. It’s worth everything to have the most successful business. I beg to differ.
When you assume your identity in entrepreneurship or motherhood, you put yourself into a box. You’re not just a business owner. There is more to your life than working, even if it doesn’t feel like work. Many people become so consumed by their passion that they turn it into an idol. When something happens to their business, or they can no longer run the business, they feel like they have entirely lost who they are. Their purpose is gone.
The same goes for being a mom. You’re not just a mom. When you raise your children, you will still be their mom, but what will you do when you don’t have to cook for them daily or schedule all their appointments? What will you do when they create their own family? Will you still know that you have a purpose?
Our real identity is in Christ. We all have gifts, opportunities, and passions, but we can’t put our identity in any of them. When we understand who we are in Christ, we can understand who we are. This is what I missed when I first started my business. I put my identity in my business and became lost in who I was. Again, it was with good intentions, but it was wrong. I hope this message encourages you to reflect on your true identity and begin to walk boldly in who God says you are.
