A Top Mistake Business Owners Make

Hey Beauty Boss,

Running a business by yourself is tough.

There’s so much to do as a small business owner, especially as we approach the busiest season of the year. Many of us are already preparing for Black Friday and Christmas boxes. The list seems never ending, and can often result in overworking ourselves to the point of pure exhaustion. We are trying to be supermoms, superwives, super business owners leaving us in a state of super burnout. I encourage you to approach this end of year differently.

This is not popular advice, and many will be too afraid to try it because they're afraid if they don’t do enough, then they won’t make enough. They make the mistake of thinking they have to work around the clock, ignoring everything and everyone around them, in order to reach the next level of success. When marriages suffer and kids feel ignored they chuck it up to being a "part" of entrepreneurship, and tell themselves it's only for this season. Until the habit of working around the clock turns into how they do life. I only know this because this was my journey until God opened my eyes through the story of Gideon.

So here's the message I want to share with you today:

Make time to prioritize Jesus first. Spend time in the Bible, spend time in prayer, spend time in gratitude and worship, and spend some time in silence. God doesn’t need us to rush through our to-do list, rush to dinner, rush to getting the kid’s to bed, only to rush to do it all over the next day.

Slow down, put Christ first, and ask God to lead you in this season. Part of the reason many people don’t hear from God is because they have too many distractions and noise. This was me. I was so busy. I needed to always be doing something or I felt like the day was wasted. It’s a vicious cycle most small business owners are conditioned to operate in, and it’s a lie.

So here’s the truth: You can have a profitable business where you are completely surrendered to the Lord. You can grow a business and keep God first. You can have wealth and still honor the Lord. You can have quiet days and still make sales.

I encourage you to make God your #1 priority for the rest of the year and see what God can do when you simply focus on him first.

With love,
